Azeravtonegliyyat State Concern and Azeravtoyol State Company were abolished by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of June 10, 2003, and by the order of the Transport Ministry of June 24, 2003 Avtonegliyyatservis and Yolnegliyyatservis departments were established at the Ministry.
Avtonegliyyatservis Department
History of motor transport in Azerbaijan backs to early XX century. In 1911 there were only 36 vehicles in Azerbaijan, and length of roads with hard surface was 210km.
In 1920-1930 specialized motor depot was created for technologic and special goals in oil industry.
In 1926, there were 896 motors in the republic, including 275 cars, 518 lorries, a bit more than 400 of which were in disposal of Azneft, and 103 specialized vehicles.
Rise of motor depots brought to extension of motorways that was 6500 km then, including 2300 km of union and republic importance.
Creation of the fast motor economy was one of necessary actions to meet the need of the rapidly developing republic for transport in fields such as industry, agriculture, defence.
For this purpose, Soyuztrans, the motor traffic body of general use, was created in 1935-1936. This department included motor teams for passenger and cargo transportation.
In 1939, Motor Transport People’s Commissariat (600-800 motors), in March 1946 Motor Transport Ministry was established.
Azeravtonegliyyat State Concern was founded in February 1992. The motor deport consisted of 16000 lorries, 7600 cars (taxi) and 5800 buses.
Baku International and Intercity Bus Terminal carries out transportation of passengers within Azerbaijan, takes measures to regulate the bus route system.
Nearly 4000 buses serve passengers in Baku City per day. Daily 500-550 buses take about 350.000 passengers from the Baku International and Intercity Bus Terminal to districts of the republic.
